Trier

Already for the fifth time, Lokale Agenda 21 Trier and the department for primary schools of ADD Trier have organized the “Kids on the Move” campaign in Trier together. This year, the ten primary schools Feyen, Trier-Irsch, Quint, St. Peter, Matthias, Barbara, Tarforst, Grundschule am Biewerbach, Gregor-von-Pfalzel-Grundschule as well as the primary school Keune-Grundschule and the two children daycare centers St. Martin and Wichernhaus followed the call to experience the advantages of a car-free environment during the campaign week from 21 to 25 September 2015. All in all, 1,450 children of 77 school classes and kindergarten groups participated.

On Tuesday after the campaign week, all participating institution were invited to the cinema Broadway-Kino. As a reward, the film “On the way to School” was presented there in a real popcorn atmosphere. The diligent collectors of green footprints from Trier realized that children from Kenya, Morocco, India and Argentina often have to go further and clearly more dangerous ways to school.

Before the film, the children presented their great result to mayoress Birk: in total they collected 13,327 green footprints only in one week! Julia Koch, schools inspector of ADD Trier, thanked the children from Trier: „You kids, are a great example for us the adults: to go from one place to another does also work without parents’ taxi. Going to school by foot, bike or bus does not only protect the environment, but is fun, too.”
