Edermünde-Besse

For the first time, school „ Bilsteinschule Besse“ participated in the Kids on the move campaign. For three weeks 89 pupils collected 2,400 green footprints.

Besides the climate protection idea, the school wanted to achieve that parents are sending their children to school by foot and to avoid the unnecessary car rides to and from school.
Many parents supported the campaign which could be seen in the lower volume of traffic before the start of class.

The schoolmaster wrote:

“Next year, we also want to teach the children at Bilsteinschule Besse in a

playful manner in the topics of climate, mobility and sustainability in order

to raise their awareness of a climate friendly everyday life.”

Today with all 9 classes we summed up the green footprints, collected from 12 to 16 October and, beyond the action week, talked again about the importance of the green footprints for climate protection. The children’s enthusiasm was this perceptible and their knowledge was remarkable.

All in all we collected 2021 green footprints and are happy to make a contribution to the Climate Conference in Paris.

Best regards from Nieder-Erlenbach

Report of class 4 c:

After the introduction and explanation of the campaign, all pupils filled in check lists and in doing so got a first glance in the matter. After that, the children built groups of three and worked on the advantages and disadvantages of the use of different means of transport. In connection with this, there was a meeting in front of the black board where, with the help of the enlarged copies of the means of transport and speech bubbles, all arguments were collected.
All work sheets were presented on the walls of the class room during the week of the campaign and beyond.
A further task was the second work sheet on which each pupil at home should write the most important arguments for her/himself on this topic. These were presented in extracts to the other pupils, too.
Furthermore, the pupils had been working daily in the Leporello.

Offenbach

This year, also in Offenbach children from 4 institutions participated this year. On 14 October 2015, the collected footprints were handed over to Mayor Peter Schneider and the municipal authorities: the children from primary school Buchhügel, the forest school Tempelsee, the childrens daycare center Rowenta and the “Bambinis” of HFC Bürgel collected 5,744 green footprints!

Mayor Peter Schneider said:

“It is very encouraging that children are caring for climate protection at such a young age and are participating actively in actions. Those who have internalized the importance of active climate protection at this early age, will surely behave much more responsible in the daily life as a grown up. The “Kids on the Move” campaign is exactly the right measure – thank you, climate protectors!”

Mrs Gendera from the childrens daycare center Rowenta said during the handing over:
“Together with the children, we have also examined the walkways between the schools and daycare center. There we noticed that there is much more space for cars than for children. Thus, our claims for a better environment is much connected with our neighbourhood.”

You can find more information about the action in Offenbach as well as about the activities in each institution in the press release (pdf, 600 KB)
