20 years Green Footprints all accross Europe

A big thank you to all municipalities and public institutions that have been out and about with their little climate protectors over the last 20 years and have diligently collected children's miles. Over the next few months, we will be offering some small special action to thank you all for your continued support - so be sure to check this page again.

Many of you have been committing to the campaign from the beginning, and together we already collected more than 40 million Green Footprints in Europe. This is enough to circumnavigate the globe about 1,000 times - thank you for this extraordinary success!

But it is not only Green Footprints that have been collected in Europe over the past 20 years - a lot has happened in terms of climate protection. More and more local authorities are taking up the issue, and many organizations, initiatives and private individuals are also getting involved, as can be seen when we present the winners of our Climate Star Award. We will be featuring one of the winners as part of a new stop on our joined Climate Voyage in September: A small village built from waste in Luxembourg - just wait and find out.

Over the last two decades, however, also climate change has made itself felt very clearly in Europe. Our intern Mario reports on what this means, for example, for rice cultivation in his home country Italy in another extra stop of the Climate Voyage. Likewise he takes a look at the problems caused by fruit and vegetable farming in Spain and found you some interstings questions and tasks on this.

So it is definitely worth boarding the climate mobile and joining us on the Climate discovery tour - let's go:

Want to know more about what happend in 20 years Green Footprints Campaign?
We will soon publish interviews on how the campaign is implemented in different countries.

In addition, we will provide further tips for everyday activities, such as information on games and books on the topic of "climate-friendly living".

In the week of October 23, 2023, we celebrated 20 years of the Green Footprints Campaign in Europe during the Climate Alliance International Conference (CAIC) held in Modena, Italy. This event was particularly meaningful as the initial handover occurred in Italy nearly 20 years ago, in Milan, within the context of COP9.

During the conference, we shared the cumulative number of footprints and children involved over the past two decades. In total, 3,109,981 children earned 40,786,000 green footprints... and counting!

To express our gratitude, we presented a 'red carpet' made of the childrens' footprints to the CAIC participants. Additionally, we encouraged attendees at CAIC to convey their appreciation to the children for their dedicated efforts. The result was a heartfelt word cloud representing the sentiments shared. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all supporters, both international and local, of the Green Footprints Campaign. Your support has been invaluable throughout this journey.
