Nordrhein-Westfalen

Ahaus-Wessum

The mayor of the city of Ahaus, Mrs. Karola Voß ( on the left ), visited the Gottfried-von-Kappenberg-School to see the great result of the students. Despite the difficult Corona time for all children and teachers, a total of 2,849 children's miles were collected. Very good!

Bielefeld

In Bielefeld, too, there were not as many institutions participating as in other years due to Corona, but nevertheless 12 schools and 9 daycare centers collected 28,286 Children's Miles - many thanks to the 3,096 hard-working climate activists!

Herne

The three particpating classes of the Schillerschule from Herne have collected 281 miles. In doing so, they particularly dealt with the topic of "Klimaschutz auf dem Teller" (climate protection on the plate).

Höxter (District)

Children in the Höxter district have once again been busy collecting green miles. This year, 7,217 miles were collected. For one week each, the kindergarten and elementary school children documented their journeys with the help of a timetable.

"Thanks to the campaign, the children learn how to act in an environmentally friendly way through play. In addition, they were able to infect their parents with their verve and enthusiasm. And they were able to prove that every single one of them can contribute to climate protection on a daily basis."

says Martina Krog, Climate Protection Officer of the district of Höxter.

At the district level, the project, which has been introduced throughout Europe since 2002, took place for the eighth time.

"We are very happy that the Children's Miles campaign could take place this year despite the Corona pandemic. We are also pleased that we were able to encourage children to get out into the fresh air and do something good for themselves and the environment."

These facilities participated in 2020:

Bad Driburg: Ev. Family Center Jesus and Zacchaeus (612 miles);
Beverungen: Elementary school association of the city of Beverungen (4,701 miles);
Borgenteich: Alsternest Family Center (392 miles);
Brakel: Kita Glückspilz Frohnhausen (400 miles);

Delbrück

This year, the ZOOM kids on the move campaign entered its second round in Delbrück. Due to the more difficult conditions, this time only the Ostland elementary school participated in the children's mile collection. Nevertheless, all children collected 1244 miles.

The routes to school during the campaign were done by bicycle, scooter or on foot whenever possible. School principal Alexandra Micheln reported:

"At times, not a single bicycle stand had been free. Even now, more children ride their bikes to school than before."

Dormagen

The Hackenbroich elementary school was again busy collecting miles from 30.9.-7.10.2020: 3100 green, 297 red and 199 blue miles were collected by the almost 370 children - that makes a total of 3596 miles!

"The children again enjoyed collecting green miles with the beautifully designed booklets and stickers. In 2nd grade, we wrote down and presented daily green footprints school travel stories."

The topic of "apples" was also discussed again and worked on in more depth in the science lessons.

The announced photos of the handover to the mayor have unfortunately not reached us - probably also due to Corona.

Köln

150 Year 5 students from Lessinggymnasium took part in the campaign and collected 6,1524 miles by cycling, taking the train or walking instead of driving.

Lengerich

From the elementary school Hohne in Lengerich the 21 children of class 4a participated. Unfortunately, the campaign could not be completed with all children due to the lockdown. Nevertheless, 331 miles were collected under these difficult circumstances.

The teacher lets us know:

"Many children were telling me that they talked to their parents about climate action, that they rode their bikes more and ate less meat. I am sure that the children will continue to use their knowledge of the importance of climate action and take it into account in their everyday lives."

Leverkusen

In Leverkusen, 10 of the 17 institutions that had originally registered were still busy collecting despite Corona, so that in the end 10,417 Green Footprints were collected from six daycare centers and four schools.

The GGS Bergisch-Neukirchen sent us many of their colorful feet, on which they formulated their ideas and wishes for the climate politicians.

Lippstadt

At the Niels Stensen School in Lippstadt, 182 children in 8 classes took part this year. Together they collected 2418 miles - a great result!

Mühlheim an der Ruhr

Within the Mühlheim’s neighborhood initiative, since a longer time ago, one mother discussed with her children and other interested children from neighborhood about climate change, saving energie and mobility. They learned about Kids on the Move as they was searching for ideas for the campaign "Zu Fuß zur Schule" (By foot to school). The took the opportunity to collect Green Footprints for explaining the children the institutions of UN and the UN Climate Change Conference.

Because of covid-19 it is better to meet outside. Luckly, they have a big garden where there are still able to meet save – with mask of course. It’s truely nice to have such greatful neighbors!

Remscheid

In Remscheid, more than 10 facilities originally wanted to join us on the road.
Some of them did not make it due to the Corona restrictions.

According to the feedback we received, 5,014 green miles, 761 blue energy miles and 724 red nutrition miles were collected.

From the daycare center Dicke Eiche we received wishing feet and hands as well as a poster on which they documented all their actions for the campaign - thank you very much!
