Austria

In 2021, Austria's little climate protectors* were not deterred by Corona and once again collected diligently:
12,359 children from 120 kindergartens, elementary and secondary schools put in a lot of effort and collected 252,699 Klimameilen/Green Footprints.

On Monday, October 18, these were presented at the award ceremony for ''Österreich Radelt'' (Austria Cycles). There, Petra Schön, Interim Managing Director of Klimabündnis Österreich, presented the 271,400 Klimameilen collected in 2020 with those of 2021 to the Austrian Federal Minister Leonore Gewessler and explained: "Each of the 524,099 Klimameilen represents a car-free route to school or kindergarten. The children are insanely proud when they can experience their everyday journeys without a car and as independently as possible. They set a sign for a climate-friendly future and call on the politicians to also set a sign at the climate conference."

The poster used to present the Klimameilen was designed by pupils of VS Perchtoldsdorf, a long-time, reliable participant. In addition to their Klimameilen, the children also send along wishes to the politicians.

As some schools were still in the middle of their campaign week on the date of the presentation, their Klimameilen will form the entry for 2022.
