Ansbach

81,231 miles were collected by the children of Ansbach for the campaign „Kleine Ansbacher Klimaschützer unterwegs“, which means something like "Little Climate Protectors of Ansbach on the Move". The campaign lasted about 3 weeks, and 2,342 children from ten elementary schools with 54 classes and 15 pre-schools with 56 groups were involved. The kids went to school by foot, bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or public transportation, and in turn relied on their parents' driving skills less often.

Bamberg

Two elementary schools from Bamberg collected climate miles this year, namely Gangolfschule and Kunigundenschule.

The students at Gangolfschule gathered 1,087 green, 260 red and 109 blue miles. In total, those are 1,456 miles! The children at Kunigundenschule collected a total of 3,458 miles, of which 2,744 were green, 400 red and 404 blue.

At both schools, the students created posters, which were presented to local politicians Johann Kalb and Jonas Glüsenkamp during a closing celebration of the campaign.

Fürth

Among the participating day-cares from Fürth, the Advent-Kindergarten extensively worked on climate topics in July of this year. All three groups, the "Fische", "Sonnenkinder" and "Schmetterlinge" took part. All together, they collected 223 climate miles for Sharm El-Sheikh, made up of 198 green, 17 red, and 8 blue miles.

The three groups chose to set a focus on three topics: Nutrition, recycling, and traffic. In terms of food and nutrition, they made an extra effort to use regionally available and seasonal ingredients.

The children also learned about the German recycling system and watched a movie about the topic. They now curiously ask which material their waste is made of to be able to correctly dispose of it. In addition, they used old objects to create new ones, such as musical instruments made of paper towel rolls, and dough with spinach or beets as natural coloring.

Concerning traffic, the older kids practiced crossing streets both indoors and then outdoors in the real world, and acquired further knowledge by completing some worksheets.

We are more than happy to hear that you are planning on joining the campaign next year too!

Garmisch-Patenkirchen

The day-care Breitenau from Garmisch-Patenkirchen in the deep south of Germany shared the result of their climate week with us: They collected 1,365 green mobility miles, 89 red miles for climate-friendly food, and 191 blue energy saving miles. Together, those are 1,645 for climate protection.

We were very happy to receive your wonderful photos - you can truly tell that you are committed to making a difference!

Gerolsbach

The elementary school Gerolsbach took part in the Kids on the Move campaign this year. The project was accompanied by additional activities all about climate protection, such as upcycling, re-designing part of the schoolyard to become insect-friendly, and tracing back the journey of an avocado. The latter made a good addition to an earlier learning session about palm oil, and the children identified several similarities between the two topics. Some of the students' families decided they will consume far fewer or even no more avocados from now on.

Hajnalka Rath, responsible for environmental protection at the elementary school in Gerolsbach, announced that her school with surely participate in the campaign again!

Großkarolinenfeld

2022 was the first time an institution from Großkarolinenfeld participated in the Kids for Climate campaign. The day-care St. Korbinian had 75 children from their three groups "Kieselsteine", "Schatztruhe" and "Pezzettinos" collected miles for our world climate. In the end, they compiled 1,476 green miles which they earned by practicing cliamte-friendly mobility. They also baked foot-shaped cookies to match the campaign!

The campaign also inspired St. Korbinian to introduce a trading shelf in their day-care. This allows children to offer toys in good condition that they no longer use for others to take. In turn, the young climate protectors can take one of the other toys on the shelf. This helps save money and protect our climate!

Kolbermoor

The elementary school Mangfallschule in Kolbermoor eagerly counted miles in the weeks before and after the Bavarian Pentecost break, which allowed them to gather quite a lot. To be precise, there are 8,678 miles from Kolbermoor in total that will make their way to the climate conference in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Various classes from multiple grades collected their wishes and demands on green footprints. Their ideas range from solar panels on the school's roof to train schedules with higher frequencies and plastic-free school supplies.

Kreis Bamberg

Five elementary schools and two day-cares from Kreis Bamberg participated in the campaign this year, which ran from May 9th to 13th. The final result was announced at the closing celebration on June 29th: A total of 10,115 miles, of which 8,014 are green, 1,247 are red, and 854 are blue miles.

Memmelsdorf

This year, the day-care Drosendorf in Memmelsdorf collected miles. The result was both a total of 443 miles made up of 306 green, 73 red and 64 blue ones, as well as this colorful poster containing the children's wishes and suggestions.

Neuburg an der Donau

The pre-school Heinrichsheim in Neuburg/Donau had 73 children from the yellow, orange and blue groups get active in climate protection for the Kids for Climate campaign. All in all, they gathered 514 green, 63 red and 66 blue miles.

Apart from following some of the ideas provided in the campaign material, such as decorating paper feet with own suggestions for climate protection, the pre-school Heinrichsheim also came up with their own creative idea: A weekly breakfast buffet with climate-friendly food.

The children had lots of fun during the project and were very committed throughout the whole time!

Priesendorf

Four groups of the day-care St. Anna in Priesendorf collected miles. Their result was 145 green miles for climate-friendly mobility, 73 red miles for environmentally-friendly food, and 74 blue miles for saving energy. All together, those are 292 miles!

The paper feet show some of the kids' wishes, such as more alternatives to plastic packaging, more public garbage cans, and renovation of older buildings.

Schlüsselfeld

The elementary school Schlüsselfeld took part with 240 children from eight classes. Throughout the project, they collected 2,131 miles - 1,849 green ones for mobility, 185 red ones for food, and 97 blue ones for energy saving. The students recorded their wishes and suggestions for climate protection on paper feet.

Schwabach

Just as last year, the pre-school "Freier Kindergarten Schwabach" and the elementary school Luitpoldschule in Schwabach took part in the Kids for Climate campaign. They were joined by the elementary school Christian-Maar-Grundschule.

Both institutions that had taken part in 2021 were able to drive their mile count above last year's: The "Freier Kindergarten" gathered 269 green miles, and Luitpoldschule collected 5,047 green miles. Christian-Maar-Schule can be just as proud of their result, as they finished with 3,792 green miles. This means that there is a total of 9,099 miles that we'll carry on from Schwabach to this year's climate conference in Egypt!

Unterschleißheim

Children in Unterschleißheim also collected miles this year. The little climate protectors were from the day-cares Don Bosco and Hollern Nord, and contributed to a total of 3,641 green, 292 red and 276 blue miles during a four-week period.

Children in the day-care Don Bosco expressed some of their wishes by drawing. Among others, they suggest building electric ships, cutting back on marine pollution and shutting down nuclear power plants.

Vöhringen-Illerzell

In Vöhringen-Illerzell children of the day-care "Pusteblume" collected miles during their two climate weeks at the end of June and the beginning of July.

The institution implemented a creative idea to count the miles: Instead of using booklets and stickers, every child was allowed to add one of the colorful stones to the collection each time they came to day-care in an environmentally-friendly way, such as by bike or on foot. It was a pleasure for all to watch how the glass became fuller and fuller, and the children were proud for a good reason.

In the end, counting all the stones in the glass finally revealed the total number of miles in Vöhringen-Illerzell: 481 green miles for climate-friendly mobility.

Walsdorf

In Walsdorf it was the elementary school Walsdorf that participated with 88 students from five classes. They collected 1.072 green, 117 red, and 92 blue miles. That means they are sending 1,281 miles in total to the climate conference in Sharm El-Sheikh!
