Hamburg

As part of the KLIMAfuchs ("climate fox") weeks , the Save Our Future Foundation (SOF) coordinated a "To day-care on foot" project which took place for three weeks from August 29th to September 16th. 17 institutions in Hamburg participated, and the end 10,922 green mobility miles, 297 red nutrition miles and 272 blue energy saving miles were counted. That makes for 11,491 miles in total!

In order to be able to work without stickers and thereby do another good thing for our planet, some children kept track of their miles as stamps on posters.

These compiled miles were handed over on worldwide Parking Day on September 16th in Hamburg-Lokstedt, where some parking spaces were used for fun and creative acitivities as a celebration of the day. The day-care Baumacker and the S.O.F. Foundation presented the mile total on a poster, which Ms. Haberer as a representative from the local environmental authority gladly received. Although it was pouring rain, the event was a great closure for the successful project.

The campaign was well received from all participating parties. Mr. Staroste, who manages the day-care Baumacker, convincingly listed many of the advantages of walking instead of driving: reducing emissions, saving money, learning about the district, improving orientation, practicing safety in traffic, decreasing the amount of traffic in front of day-care, waking up, and having fun, of course.

Ms. Haberer hopes that the behavior changes made during the project turn into regular routines in many of the families. The manager of the S.O.F. Foundation, Ms. Grießhaber, was also pleased to see the camapaign become such a success.
