AHAUS-WESSUM

The children of Gottfried-von-Kappenberg Elementary School in Wessum have once again successfully participated in the 'Children's Footprints Campaign' this year. They cycled, walked, or took the bus - the key was to keep the car parked. For every car-free journey, the children earned a green footprint. On Tuesday, September 19, the children proudly presented 3084 footprints to Mayor Karola Voß.

"This is truly a great success! Your green footprints help make the air cleaner. You are showing the adults how simple climate protection can be on a small scale," Voß rejoiced with the children of the school's Children's Parliament. The collected footprints from Wessum will be forwarded to the European Climate Alliance.

Many elementary schools and daycares throughout Europe choose to collect Green Footprints for climate protection based on the distances they cover on foot, on scooters and bikes, or by bus or train. During an action week, they engage with topics like sustainability, climate, and transportation, developing an awareness for eco-friendly mobility. The elementary school students are already unanimous - next year, they'll participate again, demonstrating how straightforward climate protection can be on a small scale.

In total, the children collected 3084 Green Footprints from Gottfried-von-Kappenberg Elementary School in Wessum.

Bonn

11 institutions in Bonn joined the mission to collect climate miles this year. Four of these were elementary schools and seven were day-cares. We received results from seven of these places, which in total compiled 12,914 miles. 8,418 of these were green for environmentally-friendly mobility, 2,164 were red for regional and seasonal meals, and 2,332 were blue for energy saving. An eighth institution contributed 288 more miles.

The group "Sonnengruppe" of the day-care "Mini Mäuse" in Bonn had 20 children aged 3 through 6 involved in the Kids for Climate campaign this year. The week of September 19th through 23rd was chosen as the time frame for counting miles, which resulted in 71 green, 3 red, and 4 blue miles. "The children absolutely loved participating in the event, and some of them continue to fill in their green mile booklets", day-care manager Ms. Sarang reported. It makes us very happy to see you go to day-care on foot, by bike or scooter even with cooler autumn temperatures rolling in!

Everyone involved in this year's campaign had lots of fun, and often the parents supported the activities too. Ms. Walter from the city of Bonn has already announced that the schools and day-cares look forward to next year's round.

Brakel

The team of the Kindergarden Brakel-Riesel reported: We accomplished many walks during this week: pony range, sportsground, playground… The kids were impressed and motivated us to explore new pathes eco-friendly.

Delbrück

2022 was the fourth year of the "Kids on the Move" campaign in Delbrück. In the early summer, kids from seven municipal institutions participated in collecting miles, namely from the pre-schools in Lippling, Schöning, Steinhorst, Ostenland and Anreppen, as well as from the elementary schools Westerloh/Lipplung and Ostenland.

A total of 5,916 miles were collected!

The children's crafts were hung up in the windows in order to present them to the public. Ms. Paesel from the city of Delbrück commented that she especially liked the call to end climate-destroying warfare. And there were many more great and original ideas that came up!

Dormagen

In fall, the elementary school Burg in Hackenbroich participated in the Kids for Climate campaign once again. Students from 15 classes and from grades 1 through 4 counted miles.

In the end, the result was 2,855 green mobility miles, 338 red food miles, and 213 blue energy saving miles. Togther those are 3,406 miles! We are excited to take this number along to Sharm El-Sheikh.

Harsewinkel

The day-care Arche Noah in Harsewinkel already started collecting miles in February, which makes them one of the very first institutions to have actively protected our environment this year. 75 children started off by collecting miles for one week. However, the project was so popular that they decided to extend the time period for collecting miles by an additional week!

Some of the kids' wishes were documented on paper footprints. They range from calls for more climate-friendly mobility to improvements in the cleanliness of cities, and hope for a more comfortable climate for Mother Nature's plants.

Lage

Lage participated in the Kids for Climate campaign for the first time this year. 884 children from two elementary schools and five day-cares collected miles for one week.

By the end, the kids had earned 3,240 green miles for environmentally-friendly mobility. Assuming that these miles were collected by replacing 3,240 car drives to their institutions and back home, a total of 1,170 kilograms of CO2 was spared!

The campaign was accompanied by further projects surrounding the environment, such as nutrition, energy saving, waste reduction and recycing.

Lage is planning to participate in the campaign again next year, and hopes to include further schools and day-cares as well.

Langenberg

62 children from three groups of the day-care St. Antonius collected miles for the Kids for Climate campaign. In the end, they had gathered 240 green, 39 red and 9 blue miles. In addition, the children's wishes for the politicians were documented on green paper footprints.

Rheda-Wiedenbrück

Three day-cares and two elementary schools from Rheda-Wiedebrück signed up for this year's Kids for Climte campaign.

One of the participating day-cares was the day-care Am Emssee, where 31 children from five groups joyfully collected 465 green miles.

The elementary school Wenneberschule in Rheda was one of the elementary schools that took part. Their collection period was during two climate weeks, which lasted from September 5th through 17th. During the project, the students learned about the continents and compared their lives to those of children who live in other countries. These topics illustrated their personal ecological footprints, which in turn sparked conversations about how these footprints can be reduced. Several of the ideas that came up during the climate weeks were incorporated in the event program for the Open House of Wenneberschule on September 17th.

Leverkusen

Leverkusen too took part in the 2022 Kids for Climate campaign.

The day-care Pregelstraße designated the week of September 26th through 30th to collect miles. Despite there only being emergency substitute day-care in this week, the children followed through with the plan and were dedicated to contribute to the project. This meant they gathered 232 green, 58 red, and 25 blue miles, which were achieved by getting around on foot, by bike, scooter or public transportation, choosing regional and seasonal food, and making an effort to save energy. This adds up to 315 miles that the day-care Pregelstraße is passing on. We are happy to carry these miles on to this year's climate conference in Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt!

Rietberg

The pre-school Bokel in Rietberg is sending 717 miles to the climate conference in Sharm El-Sheikh this year.

Their result is made up of 642 green miles earned through environmentally friendly transportation, 46 red miles yielded for climate-friendly meals and 29 blue miles awarded for saving energy.

Solingen

Records were set at various levels in Solingen this year: 4,160 children from 19 pre-schools and 14 elementary schools collected miles this year. The results are more than impressive - the little climate heroes and heroines surpassed their results from last year and compiled a total of 38,534 green miles and 6,206 additional miles!

The campaign was accompanied by various creative activities in the individual institutions, such as some bicycle training, excursions and gardening. Mayor Kurzbach praised the children at the closing ceremony for their commitment to the environment; for cycling, saving electricity and regional shopping.
