Hungary

In 2022, Hungary was participating in the Kids for Climate campaign for the tenth time. 22,017 children together with 2,210 teachers from 112 schools and kindergardens signed up and participated - this means this year, the "Move for Climate" campaign of the Climate Alliance Hungary and Reflex Environmental Association attracted more  participants than ever before!

Together they collected 358,228 Zöld Merfödet /Green Footprints - thanks a lot!

Each institution was open to decide when to organize its campaign period within the time frame from September 1st through October 21st. This opened the opportunity to link the campaign to other important days and time periods, such as European Mobility Week or the Compost Day on October 10th.

This year's campaign was centered around the topic of clean air/ Tiszta Levegő.

Participating groups were encouraged to create drawings, videos and pictures on the topic, write and send messages to trees, and organize vegetarian picnics outdoors. The children also planted trees in several locations, adding a total of 414 trees to the schoolyards.

A special activity this year was the option to borrow an air quality measuring device free of charge, which allowed students to monitor the air quality of the environment surrounding their school. These values can then be compared to those of other institutions. This project is enabled thanks to the support of the European Climate Foundation and the Hungarian Clean Air Action Group.

As part of the campaign in 2022, students could also write climate messages on postcards for the participants of the UN Climate Summit. Those were handed over to the Hungarian delegation to offer them at their events at COP27.
