Blooming streets for the Mobility Week

Instead of grey concrete and asphalt, during the Mobility Week you can see paintings of flowers, lawns, trees, animals and ponds. "Blooming streets" is the titel of this competition from 16 to 22 September 2012.

The winner of the competition are

Marktgemeinde Pfaffstätten (Lower Austria): The painting activity was part of an activity package. Pupils showed dangerous spots and painted there 40 circles with flowers and bicycles on the street. Further 200 circles are planned.
Volksschule Dietach (Upper Austria):The winner of last year's competition coloured the streets at the town centre permanently and in a large-area.

Mittelschule Mäder (Voralberg): The pupils coloured the state road. As a reaction, the street has now a speed limit of 30 km/h

18th September, Summer Winner of ZOOM Campaign awarded

The Austrian Environment Minister Nikolaus Berlakovich has awarded the Kindergarten Großpetersdorf (District Oberwart, Burgenland) as Summer Winner of this years' ZOOM Campaign.

During 28 days in spring and early summer, 140 children collected more than 9800 climate miles. In Großpetersdorf most of the Miles are footways, ways by bike or the car sharing of the parents. Children that live out of town can be get off the car at so-called "parent stop" and walk the last 300 meters by foot. Even the teachers came to school by foot, bike or autobus.

"If environmental education is to be successful, it has so start very early. The Kindergarten Großpetersdorf is a great example for that", says Berlakovich. As a reward, he invited all children to a visit of the Tiergarten Schönbrunn.
