16,235 Grüne Meilen / Green Footprints
Also this October, the German International School Dubai (DISD) focused on environmental and climate protection. The primary school together collected 16,235 Green Footprints – a strong sign of what we can achieve when we act together. In a large exhibition with project posters, and artworks created in class, the students showed in many ways how important it is to protect our environment. In science and art lessons, the children explored environmental protection and plastic consumption. Using collected waste and creative displays, they sent clear messages against pollution.

Some classes learned how long it takes for trash to decompose in nature and thought about ways to produce less waste in everyday life.
Even math lessons focused on sustainability: students calculated energy and water use, visualized electricity consumption, and discovered the concept of “virtual water,” that shows the hidden flow of water in food or other commodities that are traded from one place to another.
In language and art lessons, the students wrote environmental poems, created awareness-raising artworks, designed eco-stamps and wrote letters about climate protectional actions - all small messages for a greener future.
At the Green Footprints awarding ceremony, all projects were honored. Students received certificates for their energy-saving actions, climate-friendly mobility and activites all around climatefriendly food, as well as extra points for particularly creative actions.
Class 2d was leading the way by collecting 1,935 Green Footprints and therefore also earned eco-friendly tote bags and lunch boxes.
