FORMIGINE
Walking to School, One Green Footprint at a Time
The Bimbibus in Formigine continues to be a shining example of everyday sustainability in action. Also in the 2025 school year, the initiative successfully operated with 4 active lines running Monday to Friday, helping children reach school in a healthy, safe, and eco-friendly way.
From January to June, and again from September to December, the Bimbibus service ran for a total of 162 school days in 2025:
- 101 days from January to June
- 61 days from September to December
A total of 61 participating children walked daily to the Carducci, Ferrari, and Palmieri schools, accompanied by a dedicated team of 36 adult volunteers. Together, they collected an impressive 14,823 Green Footprints, turning their daily school journeys into meaningful contributions toward climate protection and sustainable mobility.
Bimbibus is a free educational project, launched over 15 years ago by the Municipality of Formigine. It is designed for children attending local primary schools and is powered by the commitment of families and volunteers. Registered children are accompanied on foot by at least two volunteers, all wearing high-visibility vests and personalized ID tags featuring the Bimbibus logo – ensuring both safety and a sense of belonging.
Each Bimbibus line is tailored to the needs of its participants, with routes and stops updated every year to reflect new school timetables, registrations, and the availability of volunteers. The four current lines cover distances ranging from 700 to 1,300 meters, serving:
- Carducci School (Formigine)
- Ferrari School (Formigine)
- Palmieri School (Magreta – served by both the red and green lines)
Thanks to this shared commitment from the community, Formigine’s Bimbibus project continues to turn ordinary school days into extraordinary steps toward a greener future.
PADOVA
As every year, in Padova the campaign “Raccogliamo Miglia Verdi” (Let’s Collect Green Footprints) is taking place during four weeks of October. This year’s edition began on October 6 and will continue until October 31, 2025.
Given that the campaign is currently still running, we do not yet have the final data. Once the activities are completed and the results have been processed, we will share with you the full report, including the estimated avoided CO₂ emissions.
At this stage, it is also still uncertain whether we will have their results just in time for the handover of the final nummbers at COP30 in Belém.
But for sure the 1473 kids form 14 Primary Schools and the 1063 pupils from Lower secondary classes give their very best to collect as many Miglia Verdi as possible to help saving our one world's climate.
We look forward to updating you soon with more information!
Furthermore, the Terzo Circolo Didattico organized two school-wide walking events under the project "Walking between the city and its rivers", involving 800 pupils.
In total, Piacenza proudly collected 29,528 Green Footprints during the 2024–2025 campaign.
With the continued enthusiasm and participation of young citizens, educators, families, and local authorities, Piacenza is sending a clear message: every small step toward sustainability matters.

By coming together for a greener future, Piacenza’s young generation is not only learning about climate responsibility but also leading by example. With every walk to school and every shared initiative, the people of Piacenza are proving that building a sustainable future is truly a community effort.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all students, teachers, parents, volunteers, and partners who made this year’s campaign such a success!
