BAD IBURG
At Glane Primary School, 114 children from six classes have been working as little climate protectors with great success this year. They have dealt intensively with the topics of mobility, climate protection on our plates and energy saving, and have also implemented some stations from our climate world tour Klimaweltreise . The topic of climate was also present in the break games, as was the overall topic of climate protection at home.
The depth of their engagement with the topic during their climate action week is evident in their wishes for climate policy, some of which succinctly summarise complex problems, such as: finally make sensible laws to protect the world's oceans from plastic waste. Or the realisation that it is not enough to plant a few trees, but that large-scale reforestation projects are needed instead of further deforestation of the rainforests for cheap garden furniture. If things are to change, there must be fewer flights and more e-mobility – e.g. school buses. But animal welfare is also close to their hearts, as are sustainable energy policies and nature-oriented urban development, e.g. through green roofs.
HILTER
The DRK Hilter nursery was also involved again and worked hard to collect climate miles with the lucky ones (future schoolchildren) from 5 May 2025 to 26 May 2025.

MELLE
At Eicken-Bruche Primary School in Melle, 140 children from nine classes took part. They explored the topics of climate and mobility as well as climate protection on our plates in depth and, at the same time, collected 1,671 green miles and 684 red miles.
The fourth graders took on a special task. They created posters on the topic of energy conservation and presented them to the other classes, obviously with great success. This resulted in a total of 689 additional blue miles, or almost 5 per child.
A great idea that we hope many schools will emulate!

MEPPEN
During Car-Free Week, which took place this year from 2 June to 8 June 2025, the children at Johannes Gutenberg School in Meppen once again worked hard to collect children's miles. This year, they achieved the fantastic result of a total of 2,102 green miles – that's over 200 miles more than last year. Congratulations!
The class that collected the most miles was presented with a large bowl of fresh, regional strawberries as a prize at the school assembly – we would have loved to have had a taste of those...
Participating in Car-Free Week not only saved CO2, but also taught the children a lot about environmentally conscious behaviour. The campaign shows how small changes in everyday life can have a more or less significant impact on the climate. The children learn how important it is to work towards a sustainable future and what role each individual can play in this.

QUAKENBRÜCK
The Catholic daycare centre St. Paulus in Quakenbrück was also back in 2025 and, with its 66 children, once again diligently collected green miles for the climate for two weeks in September. Even the sometimes bad weather did not stop the children from coming to the nursery in a climate-friendly way, and their activities together resulted in 755 children's miles – an achievement they can be very proud of!
In order to encourage the children in their mobility behaviour and to train their local knowledge, they took a closer look at some of the children's routes to nursery on a city map and also measured their length.
