Green Footprints Edition 2025 , Together for a Sustainable Future

As part of the Europe-wide campaign aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable mobility in everyday life, numerous municipalities in Luxembourg are once again actively participating in 2025. A wide range of educational institutions  from crèches and daycare centres to primary schools are joining forces to contribute to climate protection through creative and meaningful actions.

In total 2,226 children aged 0 to 12 from 23 different educational institutions were taking part in the "Green Footprints / Gréng Meilen" campaign this year. Out of these 1046 children collected or reported footprints for two weeks.

A total of over 60,000 Green Footprints were collected during this time.

Heartfelt thank you goes out to all the children, parents, educators, teachers, and municipalities for their outstanding commitment.

BETTEMBOURG

In Bettembourg there were four institutions participating this year and besides eagerly collecting Gréng Meilen/ Green Footprints they reaffirmed their commitment by signing the class posters.

LUXEMBOURG CENTS

In Luxembourg City, several institutions were active:

The Foyer de Jour ASTI/Kannernascht ASTI, the CNPKA + CNK38 and the CNKAU (their 362 Greng meilen can be seen here on the poster)

MERSCH

In the municipality of Mersch, 220 students from Krounebierg School also took on the role of "traffic detectives," observing and investigating road safety and mobility in their surroundings. This makes the average of 25 Green Footprints by each child.

The goal of the Traffic Detectives activity is to encourage children to observe and assess how safe their daily routes are, whether they are walking to school, to sports activities, playgrounds, shopping areas, or anywhere else in their community.

They check if their surroundings are pedestrian-friendly:

  • Are there enough traffic signs or zebra crossings?
  • Are the sidewalks clear or blocked by parked cars?
  • Are there other obstacles that make walking difficult or unsafe?

Based on their observations, the children can then share their findings with their local municipalities and suggest improvements that would help make walking safer and more accessible for everyone.

In case anyone is interested in this activity you can find relevant forms and questionnaires in the Materials section on the website.

SANEM

Sanem was well represented by Kannercampus Belval with 88 children in 6 classes. Together they collected 2932 Gréng Meilen/Green Footprints and proudly presented them to us on the group photo.

STEINFORT

This poster comes from the Klengbetten school in Steinfort, decorated with the children's wishprints, on which they have written their clear demands to climate politicians:

  •   Don't cut down so many trees – thank you.
  •   We want you to use less coal.
  •   You should install more solar panels – thank you.

WALDBILLIG

Here the Maison Relais Waldbillig was activ with 30 children in 2 classes. Together they collected 258 Gréng Meilen and proudly sent us a photograph of them and the poster they used to document their climate actions on. Great job, everyone!
