20 years Green Footprints - Join in!: Results > Results 2024 > Poland
Two schools and a kindergarten from Poland's Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (Województwo warmińsko-mazurskie) took part in this year’s Green Footprint campaign. From the Wydminy School, 100 children participated, including both kindergarten and primary school children. At the Youth Center for Sociotherapy in Giżycko, 46 children aged 11 to 17 participated in collecting Footprints.
The students showed great enthusiasm. They developed numerous ideas on climate and sustainability topics and eagerly implemented them. Together, the 103 children from the kindergarten and the two schools contributed 2,818 Green Footprints to the overall result from all participating children from Europe.

The educational institutions organized joint walks around the school grounds and through the village, where the children not only practiced safely crossing streets but also learned about natural cycles by collecting chestnuts and leaves. They also explored the importance of physical activity for health while playing and running around the playground.
Other activities included creating posters on recycling in German class and watching various educational videos. The children enthusiastically discussed their personal responsibility in protecting the environment, focusing especially on the importance of conserving water and electricity. This was a form of learning that brought a lot of enjoyment to all the students.
After class, the 7th-grade students were encouraged to invite their parents to go on climate-friendly excursions. The children brought in photos of garden visits, family bike rides, or walks in the beautiful surroundings of Wydminy, or shared photos of climate-friendly and healthy meals they had prepared together in groups.
This homework not only offered an opportunity for enjoyable and active learning but also provided a lot of fun and strengthened family bonds. Additionally, it was a form of healthy relaxation – especially in comparison to time spent in front of the computer or with other digital media.

The older students at the Youth Center for Sociotherapy (Młodzieżowy Ośrodek Socjoterapii) engaged hands-on with the topic of reusing old items. For example, they repurposed unused wooden windows into picture frames and crafted clocks from old boards and wheels. They worked in the school's fruit and vegetable garden, cooking and baking diligently, learning a lot about organic farming and healthy eating. They also explored the principles of composting and created a wall newspaper on waste and environmental protection. Additionally, they saved electricity in their free time and, instead of sitting at the computer, went fishing by the river.
