Like every year the Kids in Hungary were collecting their Zöld Merfödet /Green Footprints  during their activity weeks in September and October.

24,413 children and 2,319 teachers from 107 schools and kindergartens joined in this year and together collected  a total of 438,142 Zöld Mérföld / Green Footprints.   

148,042 green footprints were eaerned by using clean mobility; another 112, 456 for eating climatefriendly food; active participation in the campaign week activities earned up to 168,244 Zöld Merfödet and for planting trees they collected extra 9,400 green footprints - thanks a lot for all these efforts!

Green new imprint - reducing the institution's ecological footprint

Did you know? If everyone wants to live in the world like the average Hungarian, then we need two Earth balls, and if they want to live like an American in the United States, then five planets would not be enough.

So the kids in Hungary this year focused on options against global inequalities and environmental disasters that make life miserable in developing countries. 

What could their community do besides collecting Green Footprints?

During the Hungarian Action Weeks, schools took part in a variety of creative and climate-conscious activities under the theme “Green New Imprint.”

Students and teachers worked together to reduce their ecological footprint through community actions such as greening schoolyards, organizing events on awareness, and promoting walking and cycling.

Recognizing the importance of car-free mobility for the kids and the environment, some schools organized Bicibus lines for their pupils being accompanied by parents and other volunteers.

Individuals and small groups created artworks and messages on climate justice, calling on leaders at countries with fair and sustainable policies.

The institutions joining the campaign were given free hand to chose the additional community action they wanted to organize in connection with the idea -  the design of a live image, a giant ecological footprint chalk drawing, an awareness-raising action, the greening of the school yard or the kindergarten, a forest bath linked with garbage collection, or the organization of a school trip program promoting environmentally friendly transport with parents and teachers. 

Children also explored “green living” through fun hands-on projects like painting eco-pebbles or preparing drinks from local edible plants for the whole institution, and sharing their photos, drawings, and stories to inspire others.  

The most creative schools and students will receive climate-friendly prizes.

Also an adventure camp is planned for 2026 to celebrate the kids efforts.
